What is contact improv?
- It’s people moving together while leaning into each other
- It’s rolling, carrying, falling and flying for fun
- It’s a dance – but usually there’s no music
- It’s really REALLY fun
- It’s a great metaphor for life
- It was originally created in California by Steve Paxton and a group of dancers in the 1970’s and has spread to the globe since
- It was originally influenced by martial arts (Aikido) and gymnastics
What does it look like
Our values
- Listening; our primary skill is listening to the connection to other human beings
- Grounding; the ground is our anchor and we use that to share our weight
- Freedom; we try to create as much freedom of movement for each other as we possibly can
Who will be teaching you?
We started dancing together and quickly discovered we shared an interest in listening to “something real going on underneath it all”. We’re also interested grounding, listening and freedom. We also really like to dive deep into little details in movements discovering what makes it tick, and tock…
